Bio:  The artist behind these large, bright paintings of flowers is a community worker

and single mom who launched the first school inside a homeless shelter in the US, launched the first HIV housing for the poor of Harlem, launched computer training for children at 50 NYCHA housing developments and continues to work with non-profit organizations toward an equitable society.  

She won a New York State Council on the Arts grant for individual artists with Sol LeWitt as a panelist; taught at Pratt and Cleveland Institute of Art; was a guest teacher at Stony Brook and Syracuse Universities; exhibited in some group shows, and worked in advertising. She and her gay activist daughter are also enthusiasts of contemporary opera addressing social issues.
